Frequently Asked Questions

Australian life has always been synonymous with outdoor living and we have designed our homes accordingly with wide verandahs, patios and pergolas. These outdoor areas are fine during warm weather but impractical during winter months. Until now!. With a clear PVC blind or Cafe blind you have cosy outdoor / indoor living all year round. GB Plastics helped design the original PVC blind. It incorporates a unique three point locking system that keeps the blinds flat when unrolled and provides optimum optical clarity while sealing against the elements. The locking system also allows the blinds to be conveniently opened or rolled out of sight by one person in a matter of seconds. Our PVC blinds and cafe blinds are made from advanced plastic polymers providing optical clarity unmatched by other brands and sure to last for many years without discolouration. When it comes to choosing a PVC blind you'll find there is one clear winner!

WARNING !!

Do not buy Clear PVC Blinds

or Cafe Blinds with coloured borders

PVC is made flexible by the use of plasticisers, of which there is a variety, all different in molecular composition. when two PVC's with different types of plasticiser are brought into contact, plasticiser tends to "migrate" from one to the other. The movement can be compared to water flowing between two connected tanks with initially different surface levels which continues until parity occurs. The "migration" of plasticiser is slow and can take several months for it to become evident either through changes in stiffness or dimension.

Caution should therefore be exercised when using a coloured PVC laminate for edging as these may use different plasticiser to the clear. Yellowing, stiffening or cracking is inevitably the result of plasticiser loss and is irreversible. A gradual deterioration of all clear product will occur and rapid deterioration is a sure indication of plasticiser migration or UV degradation.

GB Plastics cafe blinds are made with all the same clear PVC to avoid above-mentioned, which ensures this material will remain UV stable.

I'm a PVC Blind

What do I like?

  • A wash and clean with soapy water and a nice rub over with a shammy.
  • Twice a year I like to have a clean and polish with P.V.C. polish sold at gbplastics, it keeps me supple and makes me nice and shinny, that in turn will give me a longer life.
  • My zips prefer to have some silicone spray once a year. They will also tolerate WD40 in small amounts.
  • To be rolled up nice and tight and even. ( I have a good memory )

What I don’t like !

  • When I have been rolled up for a long time I become stiff and wrinkly, so when you roll me down I like to wait 15 -30 minututes before you zip me down to avoid damageing my zips.
  • As to my wrinkles unlike humans, the sun will fix this in 2 – 7 days depending on direct exposure time. If you want me to look my best before a gathering roll me down 7 days before the event. (You may wish to use gbplastics cleaner and polish to complete the job.)
  • Being zipped up half way, it’s all the way up or all the way down no in between please.
  • Not being cleaned as this will shorten my life and effect my warranty.

What happens to me in summer?

  • I start to stretch and become quite supple depending on direct contact time with the sun.
  • In an enclosed area I will create some heat so have me up during hot days.

What happens to me in winter?

  • During the colder months I will tighten up, so my manufacturer has allowed for this when I was being made.
  • Being rolled up for along time in the rain I will sometimes show some white frosty marks when rolled down. Don’t worry this will disappear over 5 – 7 days depending on exposure time to direct sunlight.

Things to be aware of.

  • I am not a brick wall or a glass window so I will be baggy when first installed
  • My memory is good so treat me kindly and I in return will do the same.
  • If you have multiple blinds I could look different depending on the exposure to sunlight, but eventually with heat I will become the same.
  • Silicone Spray $10.00 Finesse-it rejuvenating polish $29.95
  • Plexus new blind cleaner $15.00 G B Plastics 83260044 www.gbplastics.com.au
